James Patrick Kelly here. I write science fiction and fantasy. I've published a lot. For instance, I've won the Hugo award twice and the Nebula once. But what have I done for you lately? A couple of years ago, I started posting mp3 files of me reading my own stuff on my website, www.jimkelly.net. Now I'm podcasting. Things change.

What, go out with a guy who likes science fiction? Never mind that he talks to plants, this guy is obviously totally beyond the pale...
You mention Luther Burbank in this story, Jim. Have you ever been to his house and gardens in Santa Rosa, California? They are preserved as a museum and are well worth a visit, especially since many of the plants he developed are still grown there, even though they have fallen out of commerical use. We spent a very pleasant afternoon there a couple of summers ago.
